Frustration Management in PhD is itself an MBA degree!

Imagine you are computational science PhD student working on developing a solver, stuck up on a particular section for months; not being able to debug. No one in your lab is working on the same domain, you are well cut off from the rest. Having sleepless nights, not being productive at all, side projects are hanging by the cliff. Looks like everything is falling apart. Congratulations! You are officially a PhD student! Just Joking!

Each and every scholar has been through this phase in their research life. Many of us couldn't handle these obstacles and leave the PhD in between. In this moment, a solution MAY be applicable to all of us for helping us out of this phase (temporarily).

  1. Reach out to other scholars outside your lab, if they are working in a similar domain, or you think some verbal discussions with them can help you along.

  2. Speak out to your advisors. There is no shame in saying I NEED HELP! Be clear to them about your progress. Reach out to them whenever you are stuck in something. They are not monsters, they would eat you up!

  3. Try having collaborations from outside the lab if you are getting no help. It is always fruitful to collab with other people; sharing and exchange of ideas would help you in your future research.

  4. Whenever you feel frustrated, take a break. Go for hiking, partying, whatever you like, and start afresh. I guarantee you, it works 90% of all time.

  5. trying reaching out your friends outside academia and spend some time with them. A freshness of GOOD OLD DAYS would help you.

Many more to come! Would reach you soon fellas! Till then, stay strong.
